map of the adjacent properties

Watching a spectacular sunset from the porch you can still imagine the former beauty of this once family farmhouse.
From the farmhouse you can overlook the surrounding grasslands and forests to the horizon.

The owners would love to see the former beauty being restored by new owners.
But they are open minded for any serious plan you might want to explain to them.

Optional it is offered to buy the house, the garage and 5 acres of land, adjacent to the public and paved road, all together for  $39,000.00.

The house is empty for a few years now.
Of course the owners are well aware about, that this is not done with a handful of nails and a gallon of paint.

But where do you get almost 1000 Ft / 330 m of shore frontage on a Salmon River like the River Denys, and 72.6 acres of wood and grassland, with power, telephone and all public services for this amount of money???

The breathtaking view to the horizon will make you overlook many flaws on the house and the needs of repair.

This would be a perfect project for Do-It-Your-Selfers on a small budget.

River Denys

The River Denys is a Salmon River and an excellent fishing area for Rainbow Trout and Speckled Trout.

This river is well know for the spring run on Sea Trout.

For more information about fishing and hunting you better ask somebody who knows this river and this place like his pockets, because he is fishing and canoing here for many years:

RIVER DENYS

The settlement of River Denys is situated on the west side of the Bras d'or Lakes near the mouth of the river for which it is named.
Some believe the name originated from Nicholas Denys, a mid seventeenth century explorer.
Others believe it was named for an Indian chief named Deny.
The first homes were log homes built along the river, because it was the only means of transportation. As time went on and more people arrived more land was cleared and people built more inland. Most of these early settlers came from Scotland. [Nova Scotia was named for Scotland, it means New Scotland]
The first settlers in River Denys were Alexander MacGregor and his wife Kate (Galloway) about 1810. The second permanent was Samuel MacLean in 1817.
There were a number of little school houses, eventually, after many years these closed one by one.
A consolidated school was built in Whycocomagh in 1960, and students from the surrounding areas were bused there. There were three churches originally, now there are two of the original churches. There is rural mail delivery, which has been done for several generations, and a local post office. After water the main transportation was the railroad. Goods were shipped and received by rail and people travelled by train. Each community had a railway station. Now most of the stations are gone and in Cape Breton there are no more passenger trains. The freight trains are in decline. The main industry was lumbering, there were a number of saw mills in the area. As well there was a sand pit which provided work hauling the sand to the railway siding to be shipped by rail. Also a brick yard in the area used some of the sand. The latter two do not exist any longer.
In the early 1960's a Swedish company built a pulp mill in Point Tupper to which the lumberman sent pulp as well as several from the area worked there.
The mill has been sold and bought several times, it is now a pulp and paper mill. In the mid fifties a gypsum company opened a plant and mined for many years. It still operates on a reduced scale due to lack of markets for gypsum. There is also a large quantity of marble in River Denys. There are many colors, and a lot of it was shipped to Italy to be polished. Later they were able to polish it at the plant. It is not operating at present but hopefully a new buyer will be found.
There is a small convenience store in the area. The main shopping area is about forty-five kilometers away in Port Hawkesbury. It has everything a person needs, banks, offices, doctor's etc.

Nearby

One of the oldest wooden churches of Nova Scotia is just a few minutes away: Saint Margaret of Scotland or River Denys Mountain Church or The Church on the Mountain.

St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church was built in 1841 at River Denys Mountain, a few kilometres east of the community of Judique, Inverness County, Nova Scotia. Situated half way between Judique and Glendale, it sits atop the ridge known as River Denys Mountain on what is now primarily a logging road. It is the last remaining building from what was once a small rural community of Highland Scots pioneers who settled this area in the 1830’s. It is also the oldest wooden frame church and the earliest public building still in existence in Inverness County. The nearby cemetery dates to the early years of this church. Municipal designation includes the building and cemetery.

Myles Doyle's Falls are one of the many that are found in brooks that flow off the Creignish Hills. The Myles Doyle Falls is located on a small brook that is a tributary to Glen Brook and part of the River Denys watershed in Inverness County, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Apparantly this place at the Myles Doyle Falls has been a Tannery business before and after 1880. This is what I found about the history of this place on this web site:

Myles Anselm Doyle was the grandson of Moses (Mogue) Doyle, who fled to Canada during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 and settled in Inverness County, Cape Breton.
Myles Doyle, son of James Doyle and Margaret Murphy, was born in Margaree Forks, Inverness County. Myles was a tanner, farmer, and general merchant. Myles Doyle married Mary Anne Delehanty of South West Mabou.

More information you might find here if you google for: "Myles Doyle Falls".
